Nioh 3: Yokai Teardrop Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Yokai Teardrops have exactly one purpose in Nioh 3: spending at Sudama Merchants. Not selling, not crafting — just trading at the Exchange tab of the 13 purple skull-wearing merchants scattered across the open world.

Everything in the Exchange catalogue costs Teardrops, from Secret Skills Texts to Craft Guide blueprints to the Soul Cores sold exclusively by the Eternal Rift Sudama.

Every Teardrop source across all six maps is tracked in MapMaster's guide — find them all through the Nioh 3 100% completion hub.

One Use, Zero Alternatives

There's no secondary way to spend Yokai Teardrops and no other currency that buys what they buy.

The Exchange tab is the only route to several Secret Skills Texts that don't appear anywhere else in the game — miss them and the skills stay locked.

Each Exchange item costs 2 Teardrops at most merchants, making the economy more forgiving than it first appears, but the supply is still finite unless you're farming actively.

52 Teardrops Before You Fight a Single Kappa

The fastest way to build your Teardrop reserve without farming is to clear every Hot Spring. All 26 Hot Springs across the game give 2 Yokai Teardrops on first visit — that's 52 guaranteed Teardrops from exploration alone, on top of the Spa Lover Silver trophy.

The checklist tracks every Hot Spring source individually by map, so you can see exactly which springs you've visited and which you haven't.

After Hot Springs, catching all 16 open-world Scampusses adds 16 more Teardrops, one per catch. Combined: 68 guaranteed Teardrops from two collectible categories you're already working toward for trophies.

Chijikos add more on top — each one you shoot down and pet drops a Teardrop alongside a Samurai's or Ninja's Lock. With 43 Chijiko across the game, that's another potential 43 Teardrops folded into the Eagle-Eyed trophy run.

Kappas: The Best Ongoing Farming Loop

Once you've collected every guaranteed source, Kappas are the most efficient way to keep the Teardrop supply flowing.

These small turtle-like Yokai with distinctive gold shells on their backs appear throughout Warring States and Heian, drop 1–2 Teardrops per kill, and respawn every time you pray at a Shrine.

Run a short loop between a Shrine and a nearby Kappa cluster, rest, and repeat. It's faster and more consistent than any other farming method in the game.

Crucible Wraiths are a secondary source — they drop Teardrops on defeat alongside their Soul Cores — but Kappas give higher volume per minute.

All Yokai Teardrop Locations

The guide tracks three source types across every map:

Hot Springs — the backbone of any Teardrop reserve. The most notable: the Haunting Caves Hot Spring (Maisaka, Warring States) is hidden inside the cave system and easy to miss; the Palace Grounds Crucible Hot Spring (Heian) sits behind a Nurikabe wall; and the Final Battle of Edo Hot Spring is the most-missed spring in the game, hidden behind privacy screens below the Keep Watchtower Shrine.

Full coverage on the Warring States area map, Heian interactive map, Antiquity map, Bakumatsu map, and Final Battle of Edo map.

Scampuss catches — one Teardrop per catch, tracked alongside full chase routes in the Scampuss guide. The Hamamatsu Scampuss is story-gated: it only appears after completing The Hamamatsu Incident.

Boss drops — the Onryoki on Horinji Temple Bridge (Heian) drops a single Teardrop on defeat.
